Shaun Prendergast - The Incarceration of Hubert Grey
BBC Radio 4: Saturday Night Theatre
Broadcast: Saturday 27th March 1993 @ 7:50 p.m.
In a newly privatised prison of the future, crooked financier Hubert Grey, a very rich and very high profile businessman, unexpectedly finds
himself beginning a prison sentence of seven years. He is being placed in the segregational wing of the prison where the majority of prisoners
can't get at him. He would be free to move about in safety but, at the moment, they don't have an empty room so he will have to share.
Though he was paying for privilege and had signed a contract in court for a single room with excellent standards, it was subject to
availability. The Prison Governor tells him she will try and get him his own room as soon as possible but in the meantime he is to be placed
in a cell with the child murderer, James Davies.
Hubert Grey has enemies on the outside. He knows too much and could implicate half the government and the Royal family if he
chose to. Until now, he held his peace thinking he would get out on appeal but sooner or later he'll find out it's not the case...then he'll squeal.
Certain people would like him removed....
With Nigel Anthony [Hubert Grey], Shaun Prendergast [James Davies], Philip Anthony [Chief Prison Officer Diamond], Geraldine
Fitzgerald [Mrs. Josephine Chubb, the Prison Governor], and David Thorpe [Prisoner Winston Skaggs].
Other parts played by members of the cast.
Directed by Adrian Bean.
80 minutes.
