English Apples - Potters Marston

Tree found by Alison Deacon around 2010 in a hedgerow on the road between Potters Marston and Watery Gate (the ford). This is a regular cropping large apple, shaped rather like Royal Gala but with stunning red colouring and an excellent 'lower-end' flavour similar to 'Amulet'; hints of mango and banana-like flavours rather than the more grassy, acidic overtones of some of the early apples.

It is typically ripe in early October and has good flavour, plenty of juice, and good texture; I'd rate it as better than Gala. It will keep in reasonable condition for about a fortnight in a cool room. It is quite large; bigger than most supermarket apples, and the growth habit is good. .

The original tree was bulldozed out three years ago (2022) when the hedge was largely removed to build a pond. However LHAP and others have copies.

The tree has been propagated (three trees so far) as part of the Leicestershire Heritage Apples Project.

Blossom - standard; nothing unusual about it. Flowering is about the same time as Bramley.
