Not a lot to say here; the situation is complex.
Salaman showed that round tubered varieties breed more or less true with respect to shape.
Oval tubers when selfed give all types - long, oval and round.
The difference between long and round is thought to be due to a single gene which is incompletely dominant for round
tuber shape.
