Michael McStay was born in 1933 in Essex, England. He is an actor and writer, known for No Hiding Place (1959), Le mari de l'ambassadeur (1990) and Jack & Sarah (1995).

Clive Lever writes....I have found three 90-minute plays featuring these two detectives (Stephen Thorne as Detective Inspector Ronald Coleman and Joe Dunlop as Detective Sergeant Fred Astor). These are Death Against The Odds, Death Beach and Death Of A Mean Cornet. The last one centres around a jazz band, music played by members of the Alan Elsdon Jazz Band. Michael McStay had cameo parts in all of these plays, and one of them featured Danny Schiller, an actor who wrote the play Free Agent.
After these three plays went out, a series of four sixty-minute dramas was broadcast as “The Coleman and Astor Series). The executive producer for the series was Jane Morgan and the director was Ned Chaillet. The titles in the series, broadcast on four successive Monday afternoons, were:
