Running time: about 72 minutes
John Loeillet (1-6): Suite 5
A.Scarlatti (7): Toccata no. 2
Gustave Merkel (8-10): Two Preludes Eb,G & Allegretto
J.C.Smith (11-20): Harpsichord Suite 8 in Cm
A.Soler (21): Sonata 164
John Loeillet (22-27): Suite 6
J.C.Smith(28-34): Suite 9
J.C.Smith was the son of Johann Schmidt,
Handel's amanuensis. Here are his last two Suites.
No. 8 seems to have been modelled on Handel's
'Harmonious Blacksmith' suite. I have varied
the material on the repeats, as was the custom.
Loeillet Suite 5 has been largely rewritten.
I have also made minor alterations to Suite 6.
The Soler is a recent discovery. The Scarlatti
toccatas deserve wider popularity; they are
well-written and very suitable for the piano.
