A long time ago, in the 90s, I heard a talk given by Michael Bartlett entitled 'The Art and Craft of Radio Drama'. It was fascinating, and it was accompanied by extracts from classic plays.
Many years later, a decade after establishing this website, I thought it would be a good idea to give a similar talk to a modern audience. I contacted Michael and he kindly shared his notes. After a few weeks studying them and thinking about what to include and what to change, the text was completed. Soon afterwards, in 2015, I gave the talk in some locations in Leicestershire.
Recently I was asked to give a presentation on radio drama in the Soho Poly Theatre, near Broadcasting House, London. So
here is the talk again, ten years after it appeared in Leicestershire. It is suitably updated, and was recorded on the day before we went to the Soho Poly. It's introduced by Alison.
I am preparing other radio drama talks on different themes, with extracts, and I hope these will appear here in the foreseeable future.
