English Apples - Sam Bell's Special (Leicestershire)

A small early yellow cooker, fruits in first half of September. Original tree found in Croft, Leicestershire, between the Sam Bell Engineering Works (no longer in existence) and the railway line. The original tree has disappeared. Graft wood from S.C., Croft- many thanks.

Note added Mar 2010: columnar growth; few side breaks.

Vitamin C analysis Sept 8 2012: 20.0 mg per 100g fruit (high). Taste, flesh texture and smell very like Golden Noble, but skin is rougher and the fruit slightly flatter.

It's a good early cooker but in a container it seems to be biennial.
