Early Keyboard Music - Simon Lohet

Lohet was working as organist in Wurttemburg 150 years before Bach. Dates: c1550-1611. Twenty fugues by him appeared in Woltz's tablature of 1617. They are very fine pieces, and much briefer and better than many of the rambling canzonas of the time. The pieces often employ only one subject.

They are pleasant to play on the piano for a good sight reader, but dull for the listener. They are organ pieces, and do not transfer well.

Works: CEKM vol. 25 (Corpus of Early Keyboard Music), ed. Larry Peterson, University of New Carolina, American Institute of Musicology, 1976.
