Sean Buckley - Donation

BBC Radio 3: Drama on 3

Broadcast: Sunday 13th January 2008 @ 8:00 p.m.

Lisa needs a heart-and-lung transplant. From her bed, she fantasises about where her new organs might come from. She imagines herself hovering above a station looking at the mass of activity and picking out her donor.

Jacob is a young soldier just returned from Iraq. He's at a loose end but trying to get used to life back in his small, London flat with his partner, Rachel. Lisa and Jacob are drawn closer and closer together until their bodies merge.

"Donation" is a play about our bodies and about what survives of us – it is a story about what we wish for and the medical and spiritual implications of organ donation. It is a creative, innovative production from the BBC Radio Drama department, devised through a series of workshops and recorded on location across London. It is written by former writer-in-residence and member of the Royal Court Young Writers' Programme, Sean Buckley, scored by the BBC Radio Drama composer-in-residence Nicolai Abrahamson and devised and performed by the prize-winning actors of the Radio Drama Company.

With Laura Molyneux [Lisa], Joannah Tincey [Rachel], Anna Bengo [Stella], Alex Lanipekun [Jacob], Sam Pamphilon [Paul], Lloyd Thomas [Nathan], Leon Lissek [The Janitor], and Peter Harding [Jim].
