English Apples - Lane's Prince Albert

Lots of these at Osborne House, Isle of Wight. Raised c1840 by Thomas Squire, Berkhamsted, Herts. Possibly Nonpareil x Dumelow's Seedling. It resembles Dumelow's quite closely. Cooker; cooks to lemon coloured puree. Not so acidic as Bramley. Fruit bruises easily. Tree is spreading, with the fruit produced profusely in layers; green skin, shiny, turning yellow. Some red stripes at top of tree or in sun.

Graham Deacon adds: Old favourite; keeps longer than Bramley. Juicy white-fleshed fruit; always in demand.
