Potatoes - Edgecote Purple

All-round potatoes; waxy texture. Blight resistance about 6. First listed in 1916. Yellow flesh. Very attractive flavour; cooks well. I kept mine for most of the winter and by then the spuds were very floury. The plants were vigorous and healthy. Yield 2.5 lb from a 3 gallon pot.

Alan Romans gives the following information- raised by Mr. Wilde of Edgecote. It had some commercial success in Wiltshire and had resistance to virus. There is a possibility that it is the same as 'Gloucester Black Kidney' and/or 'Port Wine Kidney', but until some DNA testing is done, no-one will know.
