English Apples - Calla Colossus

From a site near Foxton, Leicestershire, named after one of LHAP's helpers, Michael Callaghan. This is a most striking apple; possibly a long lost variety; perhaps a unique seedling. The tree is in the last stages of old age and was once enormous; it's 100 years old; could be older.

The apples are very large, tart and juicy, and probably dual purpose. They mellow to pleasant eating apples of spectacular appearance in mid October. The eye is open, large and very deep (see photograph). LHAP will be releasing this variety shortly. It has been grafted.
