Christophe Nichelmann Keyboard Music
| |||
I have discovered twelve sonatas by Nichelmann published in the mid-1700s, as op. 1 and op. 2, and reissued in Farrenc's "Tresor des Pianistes" published by Da Capo Press. They have a pleasant style, fitting under the hand well and sounding very beautiful. They are in a similar (but slightly less friendly) vein to the music of Christophe Wagenseil. They are a little more difficult to play and have a marginally denser, darker texture.
They are excellent piano pieces although probably written originally for harpsichord. I have no biographical information on Nichelmann.
