Early Keyboard Music - C. Graupner

Graupner's dates: 1683-1760. Graupner wrote about 2,000 works. He was a fluent composer with good melodic content, variety of style and a sound grasp of variation technique. He wrote many partitas for harpsichord. A small amount of his music has achieved wide circulation.

I have found an interesting set of his pieces: "Aria con variazioni", published by Peters (E.P. 11949), no date. Graupner writes with the fluency of Wagenseil and Benda; the tune is treated with ingenuity and imagination. There is a hint of the French style, and it fits the piano well. In the same book on a slightly lower plane is the chaconne from the E minor partita.
