MISS BALCOMBE'S ORCHARD....2010
A Radio Play about apples? I thought this was an impossibility, so imagine my surprise when I heard apple man Barrie Juniper (author of "The Story of the Apple") involved with the play "Miss Balcombe's Orchard", 23 Aug 2010, by Jonathan Davidson, which was billed as a drama-documentary in the 'Afternoon Play' slot. Miss Balcombe is getting on in years, but she is determined to keep her apple trees safe from developers: Laxtons, Orleans Reinette, Norfolk Beefing. But.... there is a trespasser lurking in the undergrowth.
RT describes this as being recorded in an apple orchard. Not the most exciting of plots, perhaps, but interesting indeed for apple enthusiasts like me. The cast: Miss Balcombe: Susan Engel, Claud: Richard Bremmer, Barbara: Sonia Ritter, Sophie: Hayley Doherty; produced by Tim Dee.
